Plurk – A New Social Media Endeavor for Me

Recently I have been reading a lot of other blogs and have seen “Join me on Plurk” links more and more often. So in my quest to learn more on socializing myself and my brands, I clicked on one of the links. I found that Plurk is similar to Twitter and other social media sites but it does have some distinct differences. Below are a few that I have seen only in the one day since I joined.

  • Plurks (posts) are displayed in a time-line across the top of your page
  • Friends are people you follow and who follow you
  • Fans are people that follow you but you don’t follow them
  • Karma – you gain and lose Karma points based on activity, gaining and losing friends and fans and whether or not you “spam” your Plurks

The Karma feature is great because you can gain a lot of knowledge about a person you may be thinking of “Friending” just by seeing their Karma score.

I will continue to play around and let you know how it goes. Is this going to be the “New Twitter”? I don’t know but I do know that many people said that Twitter wouldn’t amount to much and we all know how that turned out! Nobody can safely predict which new social media outlet will catch on and which one will not.
